The Shanghai riverfront landscape public space renovation project is a 750-meter-long riverfront public space upgrade. The project transforms the previously cluttered and underused riverside area into a waterfront leisure space connecting residences, education, commercial areas and public activities. Through pedestrian paths, running tracks, bicycle lanes and pedestrian bridges, it improves accessibility and the slow-traffic experience along the river.
Inspired by “diatoms,” the project creates a recognizable riverfront landscape language. Customized signage, landscape seating, riverfront resting nodes, stepped plaza facilities and activity-area furniture are arranged across the site, improving wayfinding, resting, viewing, sports and social functions.
In terms of material application, the project uses stone, wood, metal and ecological planting materials for the overall construction. Seating, signage and urban furniture combine wood and metal components, balancing weather resistance, structural stability and the visual identity of the riverfront space.
